She oversees the Student Diversity Programs and Services that comprise four cultural and three resource centers. Kathy oversees institutional support efforts for undocumented students; transgender, non-binary students; and works closely with diversity, inclusion and equity efforts related to students experiences on campus.

Kathy’s career in student affairs has been dedicated specifically to diversity and social justice, and seeking ways to create equity for our minoritized students within the university setting.

She identifies as a Mexican American, cis-gender lesbian who grew up working class, a first-generation college student who attended a small in-state school, Eastern New Mexico University and knows how fortunate she was to attend college as it opened up opportunities she had never imagined or knew existed. She earned her master’s degree in Counseling at Northern Arizona University and her doctorate in Educational Policy, Research, and Administration at UMass Amherst.
