Technology systems support student success and make our work more efficient, but they can also be an incredible source of data for the purpose of assessment and institutional effectiveness. These systems track and use data for everything from where people are parking to who is attending class to applying for jobs and internships and everywhere in between. However, when it comes to accessing and using the data from these systems, practitioners are often met with a series of frustrating roadblocks. These roadblocks come in many forms such as:

• a lack of understanding of data security and privacy protections
• how to handle data in a manner that ensures confidentiality
• getting access to data
• the complexity of integrating data from various data systems
• sharing data across an organization
