Panelist Bio - Andrea Stagg
|
Andrea Stagg is the Deputy General Counsel at Barnard College in New York City, where she advises on all legal issues including labor and employment, contracts, and student affairs matters.
Before joining Barnard she was counsel to three colleges within the State University of New York System, and provided system-wide advice on Title IX and campus safety. In 2013 Andrea led SUNY's negotiation with the Office for Civil Rights in resolving a System-wide compliance review and managed implementation of the resolution agreement. She co-coordinated a working group of college professionals and outside experts who developed uniform policies on sexual and interpersonal violence prevention and response. In 2015 she advised the Office of the Governor and select legislative staff when these policies became the basis for New York State Education Law 129B.
In 2014 she received the Commissioner's Award from the New York State University Police in recognition of her contributions to campus safety, and in 2019 she received the First Decade Award from the National Association of College and University Attorneys. Andrea graduated from Rutgers University and The George Washington University Law School and worked in higher education lobbying for Rutgers before going to law school.
