Many institutions are grappling with institutionalized policies and practices being unintentionally harmful or disproportionately impactful to Black students. The challenges of COVID-19 and current racial unrest in communities have brought this reality to the forefront of professionals’ minds. Building a robust culture of equity and inclusion not only improves a sense of belonging and engagement, but also recruitment and retention.

How can you put long-term, institution-wide and systemic changes in place to best support Black student persistence and success on your campus?

Get actionable takeaways and join this critical conversation with your peers on February 24, 2021 so you can best support Black students in an authentic and culture-changing way by working intentionally to dismantle the systemic racism that has plagued us for over 400 years.

Topics Covered
We will offer crucial, actionable takeaways that will help you:
  • Use current events as a checkpoint to review your campus strategic plan for dismantling racism, campus culture shift, and the effectiveness of the diversity, equity and inclusion work currently in place.
  • Create objective action items for developing a campus strategic plan for dismantling racism — ensure institutional policies and practices are authentic and culture-changing.
  • Evaluate current policies, processes and procedures that are a hindrance to Black students’ success — support Black students as they navigate their academic and social experience through inclusive and equitable practices.
  • Implement small, incremental changes that over time will begin to shift the culture on your campus — take a layered approach to addressing issues and acknowledge the need to make systemic and sustainable change.
  • Ensure that your diversity, equity and inclusion work is not done at the expense of your Black students — prevent the risk of potential mental health, physical wellbeing and academic/social experiences from being negatively impacted.
