Campus License: Accessibility & Your Online Course Curriculum: Avoid ADA Violations to Ensure Compliance - August 26, 2019 Webinar

Institutions have a legal obligation under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to ensure that a person with a disability can obtain IT and online course curriculum fully, equally and independently. Avoid a costly and time-consuming non-compliance investigation by ensuring online course curriculum, supporting IT software, websites and applicable vendors are vetted and compliant or appropriate accommodations are available.

Join us on Monday, August 26, 2019 as we examine online course curriculum development from start to finish to create an inclusive learning environment for students with disabilities. Our expert presenters — one a former OCR attorney and one a former OCR investigator and trainer — will share their extensive experience and knowledge of ADA compliance. This webinar is a must for your faculty, staff, IT and online course curriculum developers.

You'll be able to design courses to be accessible to all — including those who may have a wide range of disabilities, such as vision, hearing, learning, attention and mobility — to foster an inclusive and beneficial learning environment for all students. Navigate common curriculum development and online course pitfalls to remain compliant, avoid lawsuits and minimize student complaints and negative ramifications.

Topics Covered:
As a result of this webinar, you will be able to:
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across campus to ensure all electronic content is accessible and compliant — understand web access standards so you can assess your campus' course content and web accessibility to avoid violations BEFORE uploading.
  • Ensure your diverse learners can be successful in their online academic pursuits and skill development — provide reasonable accommodations when a course cannot be made accessible so you can avoid lawsuits and non-compliance complications.

  • Identify the legal requirements outlined in Sections 504 and 508 of The Rehabilitation Act and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) — know the law, mandated requirements and your responsibilities to waive an academic course requirement to ensure institution-wide compliance.

  • Assess and audit your campus' IT accessibility so you can ensure that all content loaders are properly trained in digital accessibility — provide appropriate training and safeguard your curriculum.

  • Establish or amend policies/procedures pertaining to web accessibility — stay current with requirements and best practices for section 508, 504 and WCAG 2.0 so that you are able to respond effectively to a potential OCR complaint or investigation.
