PresenterPhotoAmber L. Grove is the Director of Title IX and Clery Compliance at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and has served in that role since January 2016. Amber also chaired University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Transgender Issues Committee. Additionally, she served as the Interim ADA/504 Coordinator for the 2020-2021 academic year.

In addition to her experience in higher education, Amber is licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She served at two different law firms and had the opportunity to participate in civil litigation, criminal defense work, as well as focusing on appellate brief preparation. That legal experience has enabled her to begin service as an adjunct faculty member teaching a graduate course related to the state of the law in higher education, including modules on due process, risk management, financial aid, and affirmative action, among other sessions.

Throughout her most recent roles, Amber has conducted or exhibited oversight over Title IX investigations and adjudications involving faculty, staff, and students. She also has had the opportunity to advise student organizations, work on committees to overhaul campus policies (related to Human Resources, Clery and campus safety, threat assessment, among others), and serves as a member of the risk management team for her institution. Amber initially got her start in higher education in the Office of Residence Life at Duquesne University. She served as a resident assistant, a graduate assistant, and later as a resident director after practicing law for several years. In her role as a resident director, Amber became involved in Title IX investigations, which transitioned her focus in the field to Title IX, where she has since enjoyed roles over the last several years. She went on to serve as the Director of Student Engagement and Responsibility at Bethany College in West Virginia, where she oversaw conduct and served as the Title IX coordinator, until she landed at UNCW. Amber received her B.A. and J.D. from Duquesne University.
