Student Fees: Explore & Analyze Trends & Respond to Student & Parent Concerns - April 20, 2017 Webinar & CD
ISBN/ISSN: PUB#AC1066 StudentFees.4.20.17
Tuition charges are rising three times faster than inflation, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and student fees are in large part responsible for this increase. Fees exist for everything from graduation to building maintenance and they can’t be covered by financial aid. Students and families are frustrated and many students end up quitting college altogether because they can’t manage the unanticipated expenses.
In recent years, concerns about the rising price of college and pressures on institutional budgets have limited the ability of many colleges to rely on student fees as a consistent funding source for activities that can enhance the student experience and keep colleges competitive with their peers.
Join us on April 20, 2017 and in just 90 minutes you and your staff will examine trends in student fees across the country and concerns that you need to keep in mind when proposing a new fee. You’ll learn about potential ways you can justify a fee increase so you can make educated decisions that make sense for your students and for your institution.

As a result of this webinar, you will be able to:
Explore and analyze trends in fees over time and across different types of colleges. Make decisions that make sense for your institution.
Understand the range of ways in which colleges use revenues from fees, including for academic uses (libraries and instruction) as well as for student activities and services — then apply what you’ve learned to your student fee structure so you can remain competitive with your peers.
Handle pressures from states and the public to cap or freeze fees and the implications for higher education. Learn strategies for rationalizing your decision to add a new fee or to increase a current fee and be able to respond to anger from parents and students, pressure from legislatures and market in a way that still attracts applicants.
Plan for the future of student fees in an uncertain policy environment. Develop short-term and long-term plans so you are not caught off-guard down the road.
